Industry Snapshot - Infrastructure Sector in India

Indian engineering industry has witnessed an extraordinary growth in the last few years as a result of increased investment in infrastructure development and industrial production. The engineering industry plays a significant role in the development of other industrial sectors in the economy. This sector is very closely linked with the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors of the economy. The structural steel buildings market in India was around 5.0 to 5.5 million tonne in 2011, of which around 9.5 to 10% i.e. 537,176 tonne accounted for the pre engineered market in India. It
is expected that the market in terms of volumes will reach 900,000 tonne by 2016, growing at a CAGR of 11.1%.

Besides the growing demand, what has been aiding the engineering industry in India is availability of technical education infrastructure that provides an increased number of technically trained human resources each year. Further, India is being preferred by global manufacturing companies as an outsourcing destination due to its lower labor cost and better designing capabilities.

Recently launched Interarch Infrastructure, which is a unit of the parent brand Interarch Building Products Pvt. Ltd, India’s leading metal building and steel construction company, expands its horizon in the heavy steel structure segment. Keeping in line with the parent company heritage and values, Interarch Infrastructure boasts over 30 years backup of engineering, and aims to excel in manufacturing, supply and execution of heavy steel structure.

The new unit will cater to heavy engineering and large infrastructure projects in the country such as high rise steel building construction for commercial, retail, shopping malls, multiplexes hotels, hospitals, school buildings etc. Also, Infrastructure division facilitates the construction of airport, stadium flyover, bridges, Footover Bridge, exhibition halls, and other infrastructure projects where heavy steel is preferred.

Interface Possibilities Working with Steel

The facade is often the most important thing from a design standpoint, as it sets the tone for the rest of the building and Facade retention has become acceptable for a number of important practical reasons, majority of those concerned with architectural conservation.

Many Facade options are possible with Steel buildings as facades are set with the help of steel frames and steel building offer endless flexibility to anchor facade options.

Types of Facade options available:

  • Metal Panels / Metal Trims
  • Steel cladding
  • Stone (for Interarch Light Buildings)
  • Brick
  • Terracotta / Tile & Stone (for Interarch Light Buildings)
  • Wood (for Interarch Light Buildings)
  • Glass
  • Aluminum Composite Panels
  • Cement Board (for Interarch Light Buildings)

Heavy Steel Structure Application

Pre-Engineered steel structures are ideal for use in Multi Level Car Parkings offering economy and speed of construction.

In Multi-level car parks steel framing are designed to be strong yet, light weight and slender, allowing large clear open floor spaces, with minimum floor to floor heights. Optimal use of space is achieved as large clear span and grid size can be created as per requirement with minimum wastage of space. Steel Multi level parkings are very cost effective & well ventilated. Very low consumption of energy takes place as day light is utilized throughout the day.

Interarch Contribution to the Environment: Water Efficiency

Reducing water consumption and protecting water quality are key objectives in sustainable building. One critical issue of water consumption is that in many areas, the demands on the supplying aquifer exceed its ability to replenish itself. To the maximum extent feasible, facilities should increase their dependence on water that is collected, used, purified, and reused on-site.

The protection and conservation of water throughout the life of a building may be accomplished by designing for dual plumbing that recycles water in toilet flushing. Waste-water may be minimized by utilizing water conserving fixtures such as ultra-low flush toilets and low-flow shower heads. Bidets help eliminate the use of toilet paper, reducing sewer traffic and increasing possibilities of re-using water on-site. Point of use water treatment and heating improves both water quality and energy efficiency while reducing the amount of water in circulation. The use of non-sewage and greywater for on-site use such as site-irrigation will minimize demands on the local aquifer.

Technical Spotlight: Mccoy Soudal Sealants Adhesives & Foams Pvt. Ltd.

McCoy Soudal, a 50:50 Joint Venture between the McCoy Group (India) and Soudal Group (Belgium) recently inaugurated its state‐of‐the‐art plant, a multi crores (55 Cr.) investment, for manufacturing sealants, adhesives and P U foams in India. The plant spread across 200,000 sq. ft. is one of Asia`s largest manufacturing plants in its category, with a capacity close to 20 million (2 Cr.) cartridges per year of sealants and adhesives, later to be expanded by PU foams in India.

The plant built by Interarch is a marvel of its kind in Bhawal, Haryana. A floor space of 10,000 sq ft. has been allocated to set up India`s first Mc Academy, a training center for teaching applicators in a two day course about sealants, adhesives and PU foams applications which will be the first of its kind in the world. Total steel used was 120 metric tonnes with 14177 sq. meter of roofing and sheeting supplied.

Customer Testimonial: Mccoy Soudal Sealants Adhesives & Foams Pvt. Ltd.

We are glad to advise that M/S. Interarch Building Products Pvt. Ltd did a splendid job of supply & installation of the Pre-Engineered Building in time for our plant which has been built in, Bawal, Haryana & to our 100% satisfaction. We would like to add a special remark that insulation material used in our plant has given us an ideal benefit i.e. reduction of 7O.C- 8O.C temperature during the hot summer months. This has resulted better quality control for manufacturing our sealants and adhesives in India.

Building Maintenance Tip

In order to prevent the corrosion of paint and zinc layers one should always remove sand
and dust by washing it with clean potable water and a soft nylon brush as they have a
tendency to retain salt and moisture.
