Industry Spokesperson for the year 2016 |
Ar. Anil Hinge, Rass Project Consultants Pvt. Ltd. |
According to Mr. Hinge, Pre-Engineered buildings designed & engineered with American & European Standards and codes consumes less steel than the designs done as per Indian Standards
He feels there may be demand of metal structure for multistory buildings for residential use, infrastructure works like bridges, airports and Malls etc. in time to come in India. The multinational (European) countries are more conscious than Indian about the green features of a building and we should also work on the same line. There is a perception shift for green buildings as now days, we see many multinational companies investing and setting their plants in India.

Mr. Manish Shah, M.R. Warerkar & Associates Pvt. Ltd. |
The M. R. Warerkar & Associates Pvt. Ltd. is an Architectural, Engineering and Interior Design practice established in 1963. Mr. Manish Shah is associated with the organization as a Director from last 22 years. He is holding Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. On comparison of Indian Pre Engineered building with Global countries he thinks that Indian Pre Engineered Buildings companies needs to give more focus on Elevation design features, and emphasis on Project management capabilities. New requirements for smart cities, provision of solar panels and green energy would also be in vogue. Multistorey Buildings, Green Buildings and Light Structures would be focus areas for new type of metal buildings coming in India |
Ar. Abhijeet Ray, Abhijit Ray & Associates |
Architect Abhijeet Ray is one of the most reputed architects and has professional experience of over 40 years in Industrial projects, Housing, Hospitals and institutional buildings. He has worked with various reputed architects in Delhi and also served the government of India (C.P.W.D) and founded Abhijit Ray & Associates, a proprietary consultancy firm in 1972.
Mr Ray feels composite steel building is the way ahead. Steel companies in India needs to develop a model for various sectors which will provide turnkey solution He say agencies like NGT have started penalizing contractors if raw material is staked outside the plot or if water curing results in excess water outside the plot , Steel building are fabricated at plant and are ideal solution for this problem . |
Er. S.K. Nandi, C.P Kukreja Architects |
Er. S.K. Nandi has over 40 years of extensive experience in the infrastructure and construction Industry. He is one of the pillars at C.P Kukreja Architects and has a very long association with the firm, currently working as a partner.
As per Mr. Nandi, the time has come for Multi-Storey Steel Buildings with metal deck and fire protection in India. He has executed many renowned projects in India in Pre-Engineered Steel industry and has contributed in projects like Tata Motors Ltd, Lucknow, Perto India Pvt Ltd, Jaipur, JNU University, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Gautam Buddha University and many more .

Snapshot of year 2016 in Project Management Tip |
Correct procedure for building erection |
Column Erection
Column is arranged with all fixtures & painting duly completed |
Lifting sling is fixed to the column at exact position of lift |
Guy ropes are fixed to the column before lifting |
Lifting equipment lifts the structural column vertically and is positioned in the Pedestal |
Braced Column Erection |
Same Procedure is followed for lifting the second column |
The portal beam is the primary tying member between the two columns. It is lifted using Crane and boom lift used for bolting the portal beam |
The eave strut is immediately erected after the erection of second Column |
Proper Erection of Rafters |
Assembly of Rafter Segments |
The segments of rafter are shifted from stacking yard to the required position of erection. |
With the help of Erection part mark drawing the rafter Segments are assembled on the ground |
The high tensile bolts are used for connecting the segments of the rafter. The quality manager at site ensures that specified torque and its limits are used by the erection team as per torque table issued by the Designer |
Erection of Rafter |
The position of lift of the rafter is also designed by studying the bending moment diagram of the assembled rafter. |
The crane load carrying capacity during the lift of rafter is studied and higher load carrying capacity cranes are used for erection of rafter |
Safety in roof & wall system installation |
Safe access must be provided to the roof always |
The most common method used for accessing the roof is by using scaffold which is specifically installed for this purpose or by MEWP |
Before installing the Tracdek roof sheet, safety net should be installed properly |
Full body safety harnesses should have adequate anchorage points / lifelines and ensure they are properly used through appropriate discipline, training and supervision |
Do not allow more than 3 workers latch to a single lifeline |
The Tracdek Roof sheet must be lifted onto the roof by crane or manually by workers |
The spreader beam must be used for lifting the Tracdek roof sheets by crane |
Quality & Safety aspects during Erection |
Quality check Points before Rafter erection |
Check bolts sizes and part marks of rafter assembly |
Check Bolt tightening as per procedure |
Diagonal bolt tightening |
Initially snug tightening of bolts |
Final tightening by torque wrench as per defined torque value |
In case of Turn of nut tightening, HO-QC approval to be taken
